Preparing the glasses
Getting large nerdy glasses in a store today is not the easiest task, so I had to find some that were similar and modify these to have the right shape. The frames cost quite a bit, but since I bought them without working lenses, I saved a lot of money anyway, but now that I notice my eyesight is not that good anymore, maybe I should get some later.
The glasses were not too dissimilar from the game versions, but did need some work to get them right.
They even came with a cool storage pocket in metallic grey.
To make the frames rounder and larger at the bottom, they were heated with a hot air gun and pulled to the right shape.
Here you can see the shape before and after the heating.
After both frames had been modified, the glasses were starting to look more like the game versions.
Since the lenses were now too small for the frames, I had to make new ones out of a piece of Plexiglass that was just as thick as the lenses too.
The shapes of the new lenses were traced onto a piece of paper before cutting them out.
A cutting wheel on a Dremel tool was used to cut the new lenses out of the Plexiglass.
Since the Plexiglass lenses were flat, I had to heat them up and press them in between two other lenses to give them the proper curved shape.
Here you can see the new lenses after they were given the right curved shape.
The new lenses fit perfectly inside the modified frames.
Here you can see the difference between the new larger lenses and the original lenses.
The middle slot of the frames was filed flat instead of round as this is what the game versions looked like.
The ear stalks of the glasses were way to thick to look similar to the game versions, so I had to make them thinner.
After all the modifications, the glassed looked much like the original glasses from the first game, though his glasses seem to chance from time to time anyway, but at least these became close enough to the version that I wanted to make. Feel free to use any ideas from this tutorial, and good luck preparing your own glasses.

The sides of the frames were filed down with a large round file until they looked right.
Here you can see the old width next to the new width.
A large grinding bit was used to narrow down the ear stalks.
After they were narrowed down, they fit right together with the modified frames.
After all the modifications, this is what the glasses looked like.
