Event report
Jessheim children's festival was annually held for the second time this day, and I had just finished working on my Anakin Skywalker costume and thought this would be a great event for its premiere. At first I didn't know where the event was to take place, but then I saw an inflatable bouncing castle and thought that this was where the children's festival was taking place. I wanted to check if the other troopers were in fact there before pulling my costume crate all the way to that place, then I found them and asked where the changing room was located. I had made a pulling system on my costume crate to make it easier to relocate, but dragging a crate with small plastic wheels around sure made a lot of noise. I brought both my Anakin Skywalker costume and my Snowtrooper costume that day so that I could wear both of them at the same event, but I decided to wear only the Anakin Skywalker costume since we were just going to be there for four hours anyway. After I was done changing, I walked up to our stand where people wanted to take photos with us. We usually charge 50 NOK for people to take their photo with us, and all the money goes directly to a children's hospital for researching cancer, so the 501st Nordic Garrison is quite a good thing to be a part
of, also with the fun of wearing costumes from my favorite movie saga, Star Wars. It was very hot this day, so I didn't want to wear the robe all the time, but still the costume looked good in photos. After a while, we started walking around the area of the children's festival where many people talked to us and took photos. Many kids were excited about meeting Anakin Skywalker and were thrilled when we engaged in lightsaber duels. The costume held together pretty good when we were walking around together in our costumes, and eventually we even decided to walk around in the mall that was right next to us. People were excited there as well and took photos while standing next to us. We left the mall from the other side and walked around town a bit before heading back to the stand where many more people wanted to take photos with us. Many more children wanted to have lightsaber duels with me, and I got a kick out of that also. When the end of the event was closing in, many of us grouped around a woman with her family that was telling about her Lego Star Wars figures that she had been collecting for some while. She also told me that she didn't like Anakin that much but didn't know why. Personally I think Anakin is far cooler that his son who is just a whiny farm-boy who falls in love with his sister, but not many people of the older generation share this opinion since they grew up watching Luke Skywalker instead. When the troop was over, it started raining before we got back to the changing room, but it was a great day anyway when I got to go on my first event of this year with my recently finished Anakin Skywalker costume.
